Description
Summary:This is a comparative study about the women’ status in Old Testament and Quranic-Islamic culture. The study places the reader in front of two paintings that can be deciphered differently, depending on the horizon of personal expectations and the worldview. Images that are not necessarily tangential, although they may look alike in some points, reveal an evolutionary process regarding the status of women. In ancient societies, women were generally inferior to men. The Christian woman acquires a privileged status as a direct result of Christian teaching. This status of the woman created after „imago Dei” should not be confused with modern feminist movements. The most important human right is access to salvation through Christ. Although women and men have different roles in the family and society, their equality in Christ is unshakable.
