description | The imbalance of the muscular or structural function of the temporomandibular joint
(TMJ) can lead to the dysfunction of this joint and cause several signs and symptoms, being commonly
seen in patients with otological complaints. Among these symptoms, the most frequently cited in the
literature are otalgia, tinnitus, fullness atrial and vertigo. The objective of this study was to review the
literature on the relationship between temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and otological symptoms in
order to guide the professionals involved in the investigation and treatment of these patients. For this, a
review of the literature was carried out a search for articles in scientific databases indexed in databases
such as Medline (by PubMed), LILACS (by BVS) and Scielo. This study identified that otological and
TMD complaints still have a high incidence in the population, as well as that TMD therapy is still able to
benefit patients with otological symptoms. Thus, it was concluded that the multiprofessional team should
seek to evaluate and associate the stomatognathic and auditory systems based on extensive knowledge
about TMDs for the diagnosis of otologic symptoms secondary to TMDs. |
