Summary:The paper analyzes the current geoecological state of complex natural monuments of the Republic of Bashkortostan – Sterlitamak Shikhans. Their legal status was defined, and the flora, fauna, stratigraphy and paleontology were studied on the basis of field research. An assessment of human activities influence on the environment of Sterlitamak Shikhans is provided, and an attempt to forecast the consequences of further increasing of the anthropogenic load is made. The uniqueness of modern and fossil organic world of Shikhans is defined, and the example of landscape degradation as a result of mountain developments is provided to show the result of irrational use of nature. The problem of preservation of the unique ecosystems of remaining Shikhans for environmental, scientific, educational and recreational purposes is highlighted.
