Summary:Individuals with disorders on the schizophrenia spectrum report temporal thought fragmentation and of their bodily sense of self. These clinical descriptions question the mechanisms that enable a sense of continuity of time, and a sense of immersion in the environment. We show that millisecond-scale predictive mechanisms allow fluid adaptation to the environment, and are disrupted in schizophrenia. These data show the fragility of our sense of time continuity.
