Summary: | The article is an attempt to describe the transformation of Polish masculinity during the September campaign. The author shows the usefulness of the instruments that were developed by the researchers in the area of masculinity. Sprzysiężenie” written by Stefan Kisielewski, as well as “Polska jesień” written by Jan Józef Smyczyński or “Lotna” written by Wojciech Żukrowski, documents not only the defeat of the state but also the catastrophe of premodern model of masculinity confronted with the German (fascist) masculinity and Mannerstaat. Kisielewski’s novel is an attempt to describe masculine biography in which the German invasion constitutes a moment of euphoric liberation from oppressive (and anachronic) models of masculinity. And these models are the cause of the main character’s impotence. |
