description
Background: studies of the group 10/66 report a high prevalence of dementia in Cuba, pointing it out as the main cause of disability and dependence in the elderly, with costs that will increase in the next 30 years.

Objective: to describe the behavior of dementia in the elderly with severe disability in a health area of San Miguel del Padrón municipality, Havana.

Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the area of California Teaching Polyclinic during 2013. The universe was made up of 1259 adults of 60 years and older diagnosed as severely disabled with health histories fulfilling the necessary parameters of quality.
