Description
Summary:In this study, solar powered LED luminaire has been designed for street lighting. To drive the led luminaire a new lighting system called “multi-mode operating” and a computer interface based on C# have been introduced. The proposed system aims to decrease the alteration of PV panel power required between summer and winter due to different insolation time; it can also extend the employed battery life. In the software five different operation modes are performed considering traffic density and ambient light conditions. In the designed system, motion sensors are used to bring innovation to classical street lighting system. Moreover, RF communication modules are exploited to control and reach the system data. To verify the effectiveness of the system, an implementation study is carried out in a test area. The effect on the battery life and the energy-saving of the designed system are examined in detail. The implementation results show that the proposed system has been experimentally observed that the system using multi-mode operates as 42% more efficient than the classical lighting system.
