description | Background. The symbolic and figurative representation of the region is an im-portant component of the identity of the local community. It was in the 1940s–1980s that the creation of the image of the region became one of the important policy directions of the local authorities, who sought to emphasize the uniqueness of the region. The study of this issue will reveal the most important symbols of the region created during this period, as well as the main directions of the policy to create the image of Penza region. The purpose of the study is to analyze the policy of local authorities on branding territories and creating new symbols in Penza region in the 1940s–1980s. Materials and methods. The article considers the for-mation of symbolic and figurative representations of Penza region in the 1940s–1980s based on the analysis of objective socio-economic, political changes in the region, as well as the purposeful policy of local authorities on branding the territory. The corpus of sources con-sisted of periodical materials, archival documents, memoirs and diary entries of contempo-raries. The methodology of the research is based on the principles of the historical and sys-tematic method, which allows us to form a holistic picture of regional policy on the formation of the image of Penza region in the 1940s–1980s. Results. The main symbols of the region that appeared in the 1940s–1980s are considered. The basic principles and directions of branding of the territory and symbolic policy of local authorities are revealed. Conclusions. The formation of the image of the region in the 1940s–1980s was inextricably linked with socio-economic development. At the same time, a purposeful policy and an integrated ap-proach to the creation of symbols and images made it possible to emphasize the specifics of Penza region, reflect achievements in the field of industry, trade, agriculture, cultural con-struction. An important place was occupied by the development of the local history move-ment and the use of history in the ideological and educational process. |
