Summary: | In an extension of my ethnological doctoral research on basketry in Brittany (Hérisset, 2012), this paper describes the production areas of different types of native basketry and formulates hypotheses on the diffusion dynamics of these techniques. Some of these techniques, which were rare in Europe, were dominant on the Armorican Peninsula. A comparison is proposed of the current cartography of native basketry types and representations of technical areas established on the basis of material items that have emerged from recent archaeological research on Protohistory and the Gallo-Roman period. This comparison provides an outline of different diffusion areas for these techniques, whose permanence can be observed today in basketry production and the vocabulary designating the objects produced. |
