Summary: | Background. Despite a significant increase in the number of publications devoted
to the improvement of therapeutic and diagnostic strategies in the treatment of patients with
chronic apical periodontitis, the long-term results of X-ray monitoring of therapy remain far
from favorable. Also, at present, there is an increase in the prevalence of this nosological
form in the structure of dental morbidity, thereby causing closer attention to patients with
periodontal tissue pathologies. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of
using the intra-channel drug “Calcept with iodoform” for the treatment of infected root canals
of teeth diagnosed with chronic apical periodontitis by measuring the optical density of
the periapical bone tissue. Materials and methods. 40 patients with a diagnosis of “chronic
apical periodontitis” were selected. An X-ray evaluation of the effectiveness of the therapy
was carried out using the delayed obturation method, which provides for the intra-channel
introduction of the “Calcept with iodoform” material. Results. The analysis of the indicators
of the optical density of the periapical bone tissue demonstrated a significant decrease in
the foci of destruction with subsequent osteoregeneration of the studied area as a result of
the treatment. Conclusions. Indicators of optical density of bone tissue are important therapeutic
and diagnostic criteria. The filling material “Calcept with iodoform” may be the drug
of choice in the treatment of patients with chronic apical periodontitis.
