| description | The paper investigates the topic of the absence of foundation in philosophy and science, drawing from Aldo Giorgio Gargani’s epistemological positions, expressed in the 1975 book Il Sapere senza fondamenti. The first part will stress Gargani’s thought about the subject of the “unfounded”. It will also analyse the practical historical origin of forms of knowledge, as well as the idea of intellectual behaviour as result of the structuring processes of common experience. Moreover, it will discuss the role of chance and of habits in the emergence of human epistemological constructions. Subsequently, it will outline Gargani’s perspective about the meaning of “new forms of rationality”, that should be somehow related, on the one hand, to the “unfounded knowledge” discussed before, on the other hand, to a the sensitive, corporeal and relational dimension, the latter in coherence with the insightful aim of Gargani’s thought: to combine rational and irrational within a frame of new forms of thinking. |
