Description
Summary:It is possible to reconstruct a large part of the Life of Polemo in the Lives of Antigonus of Carystus, thanks to the evidence provided by Philodemus of Gadara and Diogenes Laertius. The comparative study of these texts proves that Philodemus had direct access to the Life of Antigonus, while Diogenes only knew the work in an indirect way and reworked his model. Diogenes therefore provides us with a new image of Polemo, less expressive than that provided by Antigonus, but at the same time richer in detail and more erudite.
