Summary:Russian (Soviet) Lawyers contributed significantly to the formation and development of corpus juris spatialis. In particular, according to former Chairman of the UN Committee on the peaceful uses of outer space Ambassador Dr. Peter Jankowitsch, an eminent and active member of the Soviet (then Russian) delegation, a fine legal mind Dr. Yuri M. Kolosov offered many useful and constructive contributions, specifically to the drafting of corresponding legal instruments. These contributions were founded on his firm commitment to the preservation of space as an era of peaceful cooperation between states Based on the historical overview of specific contributions and analysis of actual legal status of space-related organizations and projects with participation of Russia, such as INMARSAT, INTERSPUTNIK, COSPAS-SARSAT, International Space Station, GLONASS and Sea Launch, general recommendations and conclusions are made on the possible ways of overcoming the main actual legal challenges caused by space activities.
