Summary:Antônio Gonçalves da Silva, was one of the most authentic and important representatives of the Northeast popular culture. His pseudonym was Patativa do Assaré. Man of plain language excelled as a poet, improviser and composer. Earned the nickname of Patativa, an allusion to the lovely bird singing, when he was twenty years of age. At this time, began to travel through some Northeastern cities to perform as a guitar player. It is intended to elucidate, from the poetry of poet Patativa do Assaré, how his work already was the option for the poor well before this be proclaimed and adopted in the document of Puebla (1979) and with it makes a connection. Goal is find in the language used by the author to portray such an option, the fundamentals of it, even though he hasn’t in his mind the meaning coined by Conference of Puebla.<br /><br />
