Determinants of lithium-ion battery technology cost decline
<jats:p>We elucidate why lithium-ion battery costs declined. We disentangle cost change mechanisms and quantify their effects, and find that research and development, especially in chemistry and materials science, played an outsized role in cost reduction.</jats:p>
