Arch.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Architecture, 1991. Includes bibliographical references (leaves 74-75). The United States Department of Energy is proposing to build a nuclear waste storage facility in southern Nevada. This facility will be designed to last 10,000 years. It must prevent the waste from contaminating the environment by either natural causes or by human intervention. This thesis investigates techniques of preventing curious or oblivious people from breaking into this highly toxic repository. It is a situation where the form must communicate meaning over many millennia in the absence of a cultural context. Robert Irving Stupay.
