The first chapter investigates the construction sectors in the United States and Japan using the analytical framework of interindustry analysis. Six U.S. and five Japanese input-output tables are analyzed. The second chapter presents the housebuilding policy of Japan. Postwar industrialization of housing production and the recent efforts of the private sector to develop new markets are described. The third chapter explores housing production in the United States. Finally, the relationships between market characteristics and organizational structure of the housebuilding industry in both countries are considered. by Kazunobu Minami.
