The worldwide liberalization of the telecommunications industry has accelerated due to an explosion of technological innovation, growing consumer sophistication, and increasing competition. The process of privatizing state owned telecommunications corporations in Europe and other areas of the world is comparable to the deregulation of the telecommunications industry in the United States. This thesis explores the link between innovation and privatization in the telecommunications industry. In addition to providing an analysis of how innovation and privatization are connected in the telecommunications industry, the thesis also examines the structure, market trends, technology strategy, and globalization of the industry.
