Description
Summary:This paper presents the collaboration between our Final Year Project (FYP) group and the Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) Special School (AWWASS) in a campaign to raise awareness and funds for them. Due to a lack of public awareness and a new government ruling, AWWASS has found itself in monetary deficit of up to $42,000 in 2006. Through our FYP we aim to help ease their financial burden as well as place AWWA in public consciousness for future donations. Our campaign comprised publicity efforts (including media coverage and a two-day postcard giveaway) and a three-day, two-night round-island fundraising marathon held in February on the weekend before Valentine’s Day. The charity effort was supported by our Guest of Honour, Minister of Parliament Teo Ser Luck and VIP guest, the Dean of Students of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Associate Professor Lok Tat Seng. The successful campaign, called Treasure8, garnered a total of $17,700.75 in funds which were presented to AWWASS. This paper covers our research, preparation for the event, description of the event, and an evaluation of our efforts.
