description This thesis seeks to examine the Sino-Singapore relations during the period of 1980s, and, more crucially, how did Singapore play a role in China’s reconceptualization of its economic reforms. The scope of the thesis would delve into several aspects including the origins of Singapore, beginning of the early intertwining relationship, and how transferrable were some of these learnings to the Chinese economy. Hence, it was argued that Singapore was recognized by China as an ideal country to learn from due to how the Chinese authority perceived the latter’s ability and willingness in supporting these economic reforms. Further breakdowns would be made regarding the use of the term reconceptualization in the following chapter of the essay. More importantly, by first building a strong foundational relationship, it would then serve as a key stepping stone for the subsequent bilateral projects and communication in the later period.
