description Smart lighting control system has been gaining more attention over the years as it provides energy efficiency and provides convenience for consumers. Therefore, in this final year project report will explain on an automation system of street lighting using a low-cost microcontroller to attain energy saving. Light Emitting Diode will be controlled by two sensors which are Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) and Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor. In this system, it can automatically turn on or off the lights according to the presence of people. The street light will be on at minimal light intensity when it reaches nighttime. Into the night, the street light will light up brighter when there are people in the vicinity otherwise, it will remain at minimal lighting. This helps to conserve a great amount of energy as the LED white light able to replace conventional high-pressure sodium vapor lamp, making it more energy efficient. Moreover, the maintenance cost can be reduced due to the longer lifespan of an LED. This system can operate in two modes, “Auto” or “Manual” mode through an android application.
