Description
Summary:This report investigates the current safety protection of occupants during car crash and a background study of safety measures for bikers, cyclists and F1 racers. A literature review was included to presents the invention of a 2-piece Inflatable Helmet that is deployed from the Head Restraint of the car. The Inflatable Helmet acts as a supplementary safety feature along with the current seat belt and airbags implemented in cars. This report presents the designing process that was done in SolidWorks 2018 and the testing of the design that was done in ANSYS Workbench R19.1 using Explicit Dynamics analysis. The report also shows the methodology of theoretical calculation in ANSYS, relating the input parameter to the results output. The simulation results obtained has shown potential of Inflatable Helmet in reducing the load on neck and restricting neck movement to reduce whiplash injury during car crashes.
