Summary:The study of Autonomous Vehicles has become common place in recent years. Due to its huge potential, numerous research programs have been launched to study the impact of Autonomous Vehicles on the existing transportation system. From their performance in a platoon of varying vehicle compositions to their adequacy at signalized junctions, these machines have been placed under the microscope. It is to no surprise that their behavior on ramps will be evaluated as well. In this Final Year Project, studies are carried out to simulate mixed traffic flow for vehicles on-ramp. A simulation will be set up to test the viability of incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control vehicles into on-ramp traffic at different vehicle volumes, with the use of tools such as Simulation of Urban Mobility and TraCI4Matlab. The percentage of autonomous vehicles will be varied and the cumulative waiting time for each traffic scenario recorded. Afterwards, the mean waiting time will be calculated and quantitative and sensitivity analyses are made. The experimental results obtained from this project show that, in general, the higher the percentage of autonomous vehicles on-ramp, the lower the waiting time.
