description | This study aims to discover whether or not public service broadcasting will be beneficial for the Philippines as a developing country. The television market in the Philippines was primarily borne out of commercial considerations and remains true to that today. It has been said that commercial television offers audiences less diversity and quality in programming leaving out content that members of society will be willing to pay for. This then leads to dissatisfaction among television viewers. The primary objective of this study is to find out whether or not this occurs in the Philippine situation and if so, how public service broadcasting can address this issue. In exploring the benefits of public service broadcasting, this study aims to discover if there is an audience willing to accept and pay for the service. This study also aims to determine what viewers believe should be the role and characteristics the service should have within the local broadcasting market. |
