description | This study investigated the relationship between communication satisfaction, job satisfaction and turnover intentions of the first cohort of Nanyang Technological University ’s School of Communication Studies Honours students in Singapore, in their first year of work, 1997-1998. It also found out newcomers’ responses to various aspects of organisational communication. The survey attempted to sample the entire list of '96 communication graduates from the class of ‘97. Of these, 57 were surveyed using a mixture of interview methods. A modification of an established measure, namely the Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire (Downs and Hazen, 1977) was used. Based on past literature, job satisfaction and turnover intentions questions were constructed. Results indicated a strong positive relationship between communication satisfaction and job satisfaction, However, there was no discernible trend between job satisfaction and turnover intentions. This study provides baseline data for further studies in communication satisfaction, job satisfaction and turnover intentions among graduates of other fields of study and also between newcomers and old-timers of organisations. |
