description According to a WFP (World Food Program) projection, an estimation of 265 million people would face acute food insecurity in 2020, up 130 million from the original 135 million in 2019, due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Food shortage and security has and will continue to be a prevalent issue. Furthermore, with more people learning about the detrimental effects of eating animal products and the strain it puts on the environment, many are turning to meat substitutes such as Beyond Meat, that are made from plant products. Therefore, to catch up with the rising demand for plant-based food, there is an increasing need for the production of agricultural plants. However, the agriculture of plants has its own set of challenges such as global warming, where changes in the climate will in turn affect the yield of crops , and the counterproductivity of pesticides when the over-reliance on pesticides result in the evolution of pesticide resistance in insects and weeds, making pest control even harder. As we look ahead, it is more important now than ever to turn to environmentally friendly alternatives to help with this growing importance of plant agriculture.
