description In a conventional lighting system, a light source can be merely switched on/off manually. A clear disadvantage of a conventional lighting system is that it lacks automatic and flexible control. In this project, a smart LED lighting system for the operation during sleeping hours with the following features is designed: 1) The system has the capability of continuous human tracking using sensors such as ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors or camera to determine the sleeping status of the persons in the area under monitoring. 2) The system is able to switch on/off or dim the light sources upon the sleeping status. 3) The night light should not affect the user’s sleep pattern when it is in use. Automatic control and/or AI (Artificial Intelligence) techniques may be used to realize the capabilities. A prototype (including the LED lamps) powered by batteries only will be fabricated for demonstration.
