Analysis for design of horizontal pressure vessels with non-sliding saddle supports

Horizontal pressure vessels are widely used in petroleum and chemical industries. Traditionally, for vessels supported by twin saddles, one saddle is fixed while the other can slide to allow for thermal expansion. However, there are certain occasions where a vessel with both of its saddle supports f...

description Horizontal pressure vessels are widely used in petroleum and chemical industries. Traditionally, for vessels supported by twin saddles, one saddle is fixed while the other can slide to allow for thermal expansion. However, there are certain occasions where a vessel with both of its saddle supports fixed are preferred. To address the problem, joint research team funded by the European Commission is established between Nanyang Technological University and University of Strathclyde, UK. The research is to study the behaviour of horizontal pressure vessels supported on non-sliding twin saddle supports subjected to thermal expansion loads in addition to self weight and internal pressure loading.
