Description
Summary:the current digital age, there is a passive yet steady shift towards a digitalised workforce. Hence the need to be code literate increases every year. To combat this shift, Minister of Education Mr Ong Ye Kung pledge to enhance the curriculum to aid the students in becoming code literate. In 2020, all upper primary students (aged 10-12) will complete a nationwide program, the “Code for Fun” (CFF) program. The CFF aims to broaden the students’ exposure to computational thinking and making. Traditionally, the learning experience of coding is often negative and viewed as daunting. It is often thought that the best way to code is the shortest and the fastest. This gives learning coding a scary illusion. As I begin my coding journey in my second year of university, I faced the same issues. I constantly felt inferior to my more advanced peers. I was afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. Hence, I want to redesign the daunting learning experience to code, shifting it to fun and embracing mistakes. By redesigning the learning experience for young children aged 10 to 12, this project aims to make coding approachable and fun for young students by exploring alternative teaching methods. This paper first focuses on the current learning experience of coding and the different teaching system used to teach students. The paper then conceptualises and explores how to break down coding and the design process leading to the final product.
