description Due to the widespread use of handphones and hand-held wireless devices, developers or e-commerce implementers are actively looking for ways of accessing information everywhere and at any time. These need have brought about the development of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). WAP is a global specification that allows mobile users to access information and use services instantly through wireless devices. It is a joint standardization effort for converging Internet and value-added services (VAS) to wireless devices like mobile telephones, pagers and personal digital assistants. WAP is fast becoming a service that is similar to Internet that provides remote access to information. When it is possible to adapt existing applications to the mobile environment, users having this technology in their mobile devices will be able to access information and transactional services like e-mail, stock trading, flight schedules, exchange rates, restaurant and hotel information from anywhere any time.
