Summary:With the advancement in intelligent technologies, there is an emerging demand for a new category of robots that provides various services to users, called Personal Service Robots. In the education sector, these robots can be seen providing children with education. However, there is a shortage of robots that can assist students while they study. Market survey also revealed the needs of users to be assistance in staying awake, assistance in homework and companionship. Motivated by the fact that there is a demand not met by the market, the author proposed a Personal Service Robot that can meet these needs. The report documents the process of designing the proposed robot, Desktop Educational Robot Pal (D.E.R.P). A prototype was tested with the target user group and received positive feedback. The report concludes the design of D.E.R.P and possible future works to further improve the robot.
