Summary: | In the global market of heat exchangers, shell-and-tube heat exchangers (STHEs) are the most utilized one. They are heavily used in pharmaceutical laboratories, petroleum industries etc. This is largely due to the versatility of STHEs. Over the years, much research have been done in developing applications to aid the design of a heat exchanger. These include the fouling calculations and the flow-induced vibration check. The design of a STHE is extremely complicated and is a tedious process with many required calculations. Any slight error from the calculations could cause a huge margin of error when determining the results. Hence, multiple applications were developed over the years to ease the tedious process and reduce any possible error. In line with the boom in mobile technologies over the last two decades, this project aims to develop a mobile application for both the Android and iOS platforms where users are able to access the results they need anywhere and at anytime. So far, a few mobile applications for the design of s STHEs have been developed by previous students for their final year project. Even though most of the applications developed were supposed to be able to function on Android and iOS systems, those created applications were only able to work on an Android platform. Moreover, these applications did not address the issue of the fouling of the heat exchange surfaces and there are no data reference for users in the event where they need to refer to some tables that are in the TEMA Handbook. Thus, this project is developed to use iOS platform to showcase the application, address the issue of fouling within the STHE and include some commonly accessed tables and figures, to make the application more user-friendly. A work example will be used in this report to validate the results from the application, with the manual calculations.
