| Summary: | Sibling relationships have existed in the background when it comes to the studies of family. As a result, many people are often closer to their friends than their siblings. With the expanding social domains that individuals are exposed to, relationship between siblings has become an even more neglected aspect of individuals’ lives. In addition, the creation of social roles – that of a sibling, friend, male or female – serves to guide and sometimes constrain the individual’s identity and behaviours. This paper will seek to explore the social roles individuals play in the society, specifically in the realm of the family, and seek to understand how such social roles affect sibling relationships.
