description | The report illustrates on how to apply the knowledge on wireless communication to design a patient monitoring system for hospital use.
The rapid advancements in wireless communications and electronics in the past few years enable the development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which is made up of sensor nodes that are distributed in an area of interest to collectively monitor environment conditions, for a wide variety of applications and systems.
This report will first provide explanations about setting up and implementing a multi-hop WSNs with hardware and software from Crossbow Technology. Furthermore, this report will also give a detailed description on an application called Patient Monitoring System (PMS) which is built up using the multi-hop WSNs. Finally, a new indoor positioning method which is the essential of the PMS is discussed. This method is superior in its simplicity to be implemented and the great saving of hardware cost (Not additional positioning devices needed at all). Thus, with its adjustable accuracy the application domain is deeply expanded compared with the traditional indoor positioning methods in the current market. |
