The advantages that IoT offers brought about one of its greatest applications – smart home systems. With smart home systems aiming to improve quality of life and bring about greater conveniences to its users, it is no wonder that it has been gaining popularity over the years. This project explores the design and implementation of a smart home system catering towards elderly’s home safety and quality of life by utilizing cost effective microprocessor Raspberry Pi Zero WH and other sensors and devices. In combination with an Android mobile application that was designed with ease of usage by elderly in mind, this smart home system built provides a safety alert and monitoring capabilities that can not only alleviate stresses of a caregiver but also mitigate the adverse effect of fall amongst elderly that were not provided with crucial immediate aid.
