Description
Summary:Myopia is a major public health concern globally, and more so in Singapore, which has been described as the ‘Myopia Capital of the World’. Myopia leads to deleterious ramifications for the quality of life of individuals, and its development is strongly affected by epigenetic – the environment which a person interacts and grows up in. Thus, children in particular are highly susceptible to developing it due to the ongoing growth of their ocular structure. Three factors (amongst many) are leading to the current rampant onset of myopia in children: the increased prevalence of screen devices like phones, the circumstances of the global pandemic, and a lack of education leading to poor usage habits. As a UI/UX designer, there is an opportunity to directly affect children’s usage of their phones by virtue of being the first point-of-contact that determines their interactions and as such this project aims to provide a designed experience for children to lighten their ocular stress and actively mitigate the onset of myopia by improving their quality of screen usage, as well as educating them on the relationship between screen usage and myopia.
