description | Research on the other-race effect (ORE) has been steadily increasing, with researchers extending their studies to multiracial societies over the years. In this critical review, we explore the gaps and challenges of the current and past ORE research. Firstly, we seek to discuss the generalizability of such research to multiracial populations. Secondly, we delve into established and emerging theories surrounding the development of ORE and examine its applicability in multiracial societies. Lastly, we identified the methodological disparities in studies of ORE that have been conducted thus far. Having highlighted the issues of existing research, we proposed and outlined the directions for future studies in multiracial contexts. |
