Singapore faced many different challenges during the post-colonial era, and “decolonisation” was one of the ingrained matters. A series of social issues such as ethnic identity, national identity, and the marginalisation of Chinese culture arose. This affair has gradually become one of the highly discussed topics by local authors, resulting in the emergence of many literary works related to it. This thesis uses Ding Yun's "The Last Yishun Village", Zhang Hui's (Cheong Weng Yat) "Ten Dreams", Teoh Hee La's "Sir, Statue and My Dad" and Zheng Jing Xiang's "Colonial Phenomenon" alongside with Singapore history as research subjects to analyse their insights on the issue of "decolonisation". |
