Summary: | In the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, to satisfy consumer demands, it is crucial that goods are manufactured at a fast pace. It is imperative that the goods produced are of high quality. Consumer associate famous brands with high-quality goods. Hence, it is vital that defective goods are spotted and removed from the production line before it gets packaged. One of the conventional ways to detect a defective good is through the human eye. However, as goods in the FMCG industry are produced at a high speed, there is a possibility that some defective goods may not be detected by the human eye. Hence, one of the effective ways of detecting defective goods is through the use of a visual inspection system.
In this paper, through the test case of a mini conveyor, image processing will be conducted to obtain the height information of the object (cream jar) for calibration and measurement. This information is used to provide a feedback signal to the visual inspection system. This signal enables the system to make appropriate changes such as moving vertically to allow for good autofocus of the system.
