description This report presents the results of an experimental study on the mechanical characteristics of 3D printed resins composite, namely Carbon Fibre Reinforced Onyx. Specimens used in this study are printed with an extrusion method, Fused Deposition Modelling, with the specimen comprising of Onyx and Carbon Fibre. Onyx, a flagship material developed by Markforged in 2016, is a relatively new material. Hence, there is a need to study the mechanical characteristics of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Onyx and compare the results to past experimental studies. This report will focus on the study of 0-degree printed specimens. Two types of tests are conducted on specimens, Tensile and Fatigue test, to evaluate the tensile and fatigue properties of the specimens. Tensile test was conducted on a total of 6 specimens and all specimens displayed brittle properties with the average maximum force obtained by the 0-degree specimens to be 13.1kN. Fatigue Test was conducted on a total of 10 specimens, with most specimens concluded to display high fatigue load. However, due to time and equipment constraint, no significant pattern of load percentage to the maximum number of cycles can be derived. Therefore, more tests should be conducted.
