description Injuries such as falls are one of the main causes of death in the world. In fact, people with intellectual disabilities have a higher chance of getting injured compared to the general public. As a result, fall detection which uses sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes is a widely used device especially among the elderly to recognize when one falls. However, the use of fall detection is rarely explored among Down syndrome patients. This report targets on developing an interactive mobile software application and a portable fall detection device to ensure Down syndrome patients are getting the support they require, while easing the lives of their caregivers. This project consists of two main portions: education and safety. The education part is a mobile software application that is done by my group mates, Ma Rundi and Derick Tan. While the safety part is an Android mobile application and wearable fall detection device done by myself. The safety part of this project serves as an addon for users to be more independent and confident, in the event they are unaccompanied by their caregivers. It helps users to alert their caregivers when a fall event has occurred and also aims to reduce the fear of falling, by providing users with rapid assistance. With the aid of an Android mobile application, it integrates both the hardware and software systems together, which alerts caregivers phones in the form of a text message.
