The Chinese community in Malaysia is an important part of the global Chinese diaspora, and studying its education and social image has significant meaning for promoting research on overseas Chinese. The 1920s and 1930s were a prosperous stage in the history of Malaysian Chinese literature. During the emerging period of new literature, various writing and literary genres blossomed like bamboo shoots after the spring rain on the stage of Chinese literature. Writers who moved south from China formed the most important group of authors in the new Malaysian Chinese literary circle in the first half of the 20th century, and also made huge contributions to overseas Chinese literature in the second half of the century.
Lin CanTian, drawing on his own experiences and stories from his long-term residence, used a realistic writing method to describe the actual life in the Nanyang education sector, and raised several major issues existing in the Chinese education sector. He has provided a true and precious record for later generations to understand the real life of the Chinese immigrant education sector and grassroots Chinese immigrants in the Malay region. This article analyzes his two novels "Nong Yan" (Dense Smoke), "Re Zhang" (Hot Malaria), and the short story collection "Yu Ai" (Remaining Sorrow) from multiple perspectives, excavating the portrayal of the Chinese image in Lin CanTian's works. |
