Description
Summary:Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) play an essential role in addressing the ecological and economic challenges associated with the transfer of ballast water by ships. In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations or the Ballast Water Management Convention, all vessels must use a ballast water management system (BWMS) to limit the spread of microorganisms and contaminants that are not native to the area. This report will review the different ballast water treatment processes being used currently. In addition, this paper will also address the implementation and operational aspects of SembEco LUV BWMS as well as focus on the ongoing research of the fluid flow through the LUV chamber system using Ansys CFD and ultimately creating and studying an alternative model.
