description The project aimed to optimise the filament winding process of a composite pipe that is wound using commingled reinforced polymer material such as the E-Glass/PA6 and Carbon Fibre/PA6. Changing different process parameters such as winding angle, filament tension and surface texture were used as a criterion in assessing the optimisation. The project used advanced machinery such as the Kuka 6-axis robot, high temperature oven and autoclave to assist in the manufacturing work. Various testing standards from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) were used to evaluate properties such as the compression and tensile strength and porosity of the final product. The results of these materials have yielded an improvement of almost 3 times in aspects such as compressive strength and a reduction in porosity of almost 25 times. This enhancement of the composites showed that certain parameters have a great impact on the strength of the manufactured material and careful adjustments is crucial in obtaining an optimised composite pipe.
