| Summary: | In a recent paper Mr. Nathan Hill has objected to various points in an
earlier article of mine on Tibetan transcriptions of Chinese. All of the
questions he raises are interesting and worthy of further consideration and
discussion. However, in the present brief communication I shall limit
myself to two of them, which are of particular concern to Sinologists. They
involve the use of Tibetan letter ༢ , often called ’a-chung in Western
sources. Mr. Hill romanizes this letter as v-, and in order to avoid
confusion, I shall adopt this romanization here.
