description In December 2005, Chulalongkorn University hosted the 11th Himalayan Languages Symposium in honour of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn’s fiftieth birthday. The annual Himalayan Languages Symposia provide a valuable avenue for the dissemination and discussion of research on the languages and speech communities of the greater Himalayan region. While the focus of past symposia has generally been on languages of the Tibeto-Burman family, the all-inclusive nature of these meetings welcomes the participation of scholars researching the linguistic and related aspects of any language spoken in the geographical area extending from Central Asia to South Asia and South East Asia.
