Summary:Mini stories are a relatively new literary genre shorter than short stories. The word count of mini fiction is typically a maximum of a thousand words. This new novel type features conciseness, oddity, fabulousness, and ingenuity. In Singapore, the style of mini stories is realistic. Most literary works reflect the problems of society. Without exception, Xi Ni Er's novels share the same features. In his mini stories, he integrates the history of Singapore into the plots and explores the risks of Chinese education and its popularity in Singapore. He addresses social problems through his writing. These issues should concern Singaporeans, so I have chosen to translate his works. In Xi Ni Er's language style, he frequently incorporates local expressions and culturally-loaded words. Furthermore, he excels at playing various word games in his novels, which is the most prominent feature of his mini stories. To embody the writing subjects of Xi Ni Er, which involves reminiscing about his homeland, preserving culture, and honouring history, I used Singlish in my translation to evoke nostalgia among Singaporeans, which serves as a reminder to them of who they are and helps strengthen the recognition of their identity.
