description This paper aims to explore the performance of a building constructed out of wooden columns when subjected to structural vibrations. To do so, this study will make use of Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) to obtain the modal parameters of a wooden structure. Emphasis will be placed on the damping characteristics of the wooden structure. The two experimental methods that were utilised for data collection were the Impact Hammer Test and the Shake Table Test. These tests were conducted on a shear building to capture its acceleration-response under varying conditions. Following the experiment, analysis techniques such as Fast Fourier Transform, Logarithmic Decrement, and Half-Power Bandwidth will be used to extract modal parameters such as natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape. The Results and Discussion chapter will compare the results of the wooden structure against an aluminium structure to highlight its performance under structural vibrations. It will also explore the reliability of the experimental and analysis methods while considering their assumptions and limitations within the context of the study.
