description Holography is an important form of 3D display technology currently. Its unique way of replicating 3D object accurately made it see application in biomedical imaging, security and also in the gaming industry. One type of Holography is Digital Holography, where the holograms used are the Computer Generated Holograms (CGH) and Spatial Light Modulators (SLM) are used to modulate light to reconstruct the 3D image. The challenges faced in Digital Holography is the very large number of pixels and also that the size of the pixel needs to be small in order to achieve a big image and a large viewing zone. To increase the number of pixels and to reduce its size, the Optically-Addressed Spatial Light Modulator (OASLM) is used in Digital Holography. Through the process known as Active Tiling, the OASLM can allow the Holographic setup to achieve a high number of pixels and a small pixel size. The main objective of this project is to optimize the performance of the OASLM in terms response time, resolution and contrast. This report will mainly revolve on the OASLM. The fundamentals of the OASLM will be discussed. MATLAB will be used to simulate the OASLM and used to characterize the parameters of the OASLM. LabVIEW 8.2 will be used to process data obtained from the actual experiment. The failure milestones encounter during the project will also be discussed.
