Resumo:In this chapter we discuss the evolution of international humanitarianism in Asia beginning with colonialism, inter-state conflicts, and mass atrocities. We then explore the consolidation of national and regional institutions through its governance of natural hazards, human-induced disasters and public health emergencies. In the third section we analyse the mobilisation of civil society in humanitarian action. This chapter concludes with reflection on the diversity of experience and comprehensive understanding of humanitarianism in East Asia.
